MANHATTAN, KAN. - Representatives of the Kansas Department of Labor recently presented Florence Manufacturing, with plaques and a flag for accomplishments within The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). Florence is the second company in Manhattan and the 155th company in the State of Kansas to receive this prestigious honor from the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

The employees gathered together to celebrate this achievement as they were presented the SHARP award for "upholding high standards for workplace safety and health." Thanking them for their dedication to safety and to Florence Manufacturing during the presentation was General Manager, John Altstadt who stated, “This award is possible because Florence Manufacturing has the best employees in the area, their strong sense of pride and commitment to maintaining our company's high Safety standards make us a great company.”

The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) recognizes small employers who operate an exemplary safety and health management system, and work continuously to develop, implement, and improve the effectiveness of their workplace safety and health programs. Acceptance into SHARP by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is an achievement of status that singles out exceptional programs from their business peers as a model for worksite safety and health.

SHARP2.jpg"We congratulate Florence for its achievement and recognize them as a true leader in safety and health," said Jim Garner, Kansas Department of Labor Secretary. "We applaud their efforts to attain SHARP status and ensure more workers go home at night in the same condition they came to work in the morning."

Secretary Garner presented Florence Manufacturing with a SHARP flag and a certificate from the Kansas Department of Labor.

"You are in a very elite group of companies," said Cliff Morris, Kansas Department of Labor, Division of Industrial Safety and Health, as he congratulated the employees for their achievements in Safety, and presented a Plaque on behalf of U.S. Department of Labor OSHA.

Further recognition of this award was also held at the Kansas State Capital where Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson signed the SHARP proclamation in front of the Florence Management Team and congratulated them on earning the prestigious award.
